We’re regular visitors to Roundhay park and after quite a long time revisited Golden acre. Smaller than Roundhay but plenty of interest, wooded areas, flowerbeds, a large lake. Popular with dog walkers. Car parks at either end. And a really nice cafe !

Living in Leeds and driven past the Golden Acre Park it was about time a visit was undertaken.
On a dull day in November we arrived in one of the free car parks off Otley Road to start our little adventure.
Well sign posted information boards right from the start we took the walk around the perimeter about a 40 minute stroll.
Well maintained pathways all the way round.
Plenty of dog walkers and a few bird enthusiasts about.
Walking to the bottom of the large lake then into a wooded area then back onto the right hand path that leads up to the cafe.
Oh go on then a quick coffee then we took the reverse walk back.
It’s fair to say we should have done this 2-3 weeks beforehand when the trees would have been in full autumn colours.
There’s plenty of wildlife to be seen more so the grey squirrels… I’m now informed that they are invasive creatures … now saying that the ones we encountered where not timid but will come up to you which is quite cute m, but others may disagree.
There’s also a small section of miniature railway that’s left surprisingly just about intact near the cafe … although I didn’t know one existed here, it’s a shame it only last a few years in the 1930s.
If you look the video up it’s very very popular back in its day…. Yes if by some miracle it was ever brought back what a attraction to promote the park.
On our return we noted a one mile walk through a section of woodland Adel Dam nature reserve that’s also a nice woodland walk although it’s not paved so November time places can be a bit muddy but it’s do able.
Bird watching hides and water features wooden bridges and information boards everywhere.
So I’m impressed next visit springtime and Autumn when the leafs are turning
Well recommended

Beautiful park. Flowers are absolutely beautiful. Not enough bins around park. Lots of seating if needed. Beautiful scenery

One of our favourite parks for a walk around when in the area, we often go for a walk after some yummy fish and chips, it’s lovely to see the park at different times of year from the frozen lake in winter to the blossom in springtime and the lovely autumn leaves.

Love it here! You can choose (or do both) either the scenic walk where the ducks are or the woodland route where go around Paul's pond. The woodland route is little muddy most times whereas the scenic route is pathed. The cafe is lovely too. Loads of trees, flowers and squirrels for dogs to chase! My only negatives are 1) the car park gets full easily (you can park at the hotel opposite or on the road but bear in mind it's a 60mph road so a little dangerous) and the drive into Golden Acre Park is long and always traffic because of student area Headingley. But once you get there, its worth the drive.

This is my second visit-the first was almost six years ago. However, I find I still love the place. It was a sunny Sunday and Parking was difficult although not really a nightmare since we had reached early. Be warned space is a constraint on good days.
It is wooded (137 acres) and although a lot of it is off-limits, just strolling quietly or sitting by the lake watching the green-headed and the blue-headed mallards (quite rare), the cormorants, amorous mute swans putting up fantastic courting displays is extremely relaxing. There are benches and feeding platforms for those with food for the ducks.
The paths are clearly marked (the marshy area is fenced off) , the is a place for coffee and snacks...the Icecream cart is horribly over-priced I thought but it IS artisanal ice cream after all.
Anyway, the tall trees were leafless at this time of the year and the few birds we saw (we heard many) were almost impossible to photograph. So I photographed flowers, fungi and the pretty woodland scenes. Most of all I loved the young toddlers and the pet pooches exploring the woodland with the same level of exuberant energy. Senior citizens, some being wheeled in and young couples...this place calls out to all.
I think this is somewhere to take your kids, your dogs (definitely...although in some places leashes are ,mandatory)...but most importantly to take the tired soul and body stressed with the aftereffects of the lockdown...to just sit there...inhale and exhale and feel the most precious sense of oneness with Nature.
I can vouch for the fact that I felt peace descend.
That serenity that I felt has been my priceless takeaway from a simple two-hour visit...and to think I barely walked through a fraction of the Park.
No Entry Fee.
Free parking.
Dog-friendly.
Wheel-chairs too.

This is an outstanding park area covering over 130 acres. Fantastic walks, a lovely lake and many rare and beautiful flowers.
But, the cafe is a disgrace. It does not open until 10am, only in the UK would this happen...I am British and live here, and this is not unusual, for places to open at ridiculous times. Even on a Saturday this cafe does not open until 10am. The prices are very very expensive. A single shot of Espresso coffee, £2.80... Absolutely crazy. This is Leeds Council run cafe not some exclusive place.
I would recommend the park, but avoid this highly expensive and poorly run cafe.

We are regulars here with our Springer who loves quartering around in the woods. We tend to go to the top car park and do a circuit from there. The park is well kept up to by the staff and is always well presented.
Visit all year round and find it peaceful and relaxing walking around.
So nice to have such a lovely park close to us.
