Very well kept park and trails were very easy to follow. Great views and great park rangers.
Clean bathrooms and nice visitor center.
The park ranger actually gave us his cell phone incase we needed his help.

We took a road trip from Spokane to Kalispell - spent the night and took the short drive to this nice park. You drive up to the Overlook, at the Interpretive Center - So there is no great effort at all to see the wonderful view of the Valley. You can hike as much or little as you like.

Several reasons make this the perfect local adventure. The park is close to downtown Kalispell and easy to access in pretty much any weather. On this particular visit the valley filled with ice fog giving it a surreal and ethereal look. The clutter of the valley was erased. The park offers a variety of activities such as hiking, biking, horse back riding, snowshoeing and wild life viewing. There are several scenic overlooks allowing spectacular views of the Flathead Valley, Flathead Lake, Jewel Basin, The Whitefish and Swan Mountains and Glacier National Park. There is also a small emporium as well as an interactive display. This is a great and efficient way to experience outdoor Kalispell. Eight dollars gets out of state visitors in.

We went for about 1.5 hour hike in the snow. We wanted to snowshoe, but the visitor's center was closed when we arrived. I had read that they rent snow shoes, but that might not be accurate. Beautiful forest to hike in.

This is such a great local playground. Located just 10 minutes from downtown Kalispell, it gives anyone with time restraints an opportunity to explore. Located on the west side of the valley at an elevation ranging roughly from 2950' to 3650' (900 m to 1110 m) there are moderately challenging trails. The trails are marked and there are kiosks with information as well about the trails and history. With numerous overlooks the views of the valley are spectacular. Looking east Glacier National Park is easily seen. There is a self guided audio tour available. The visitors center has a gift shop as well as information and there is an interactive learning center, however it is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. This is free to Montana residents but there is a nominal fee for those from out of state.

Lone Pine State Park is a good network of smaller trails. If you’re feeling energetic you could do the entire network in approx 2 hours. There are no flat/level trails, so there’s always an opportunity to push yourself. Multiple lookout spots are on the trail system, providing great views over the valley.

Is there anything we need to know about wild animals in the area? I'm especially concerned about bears. We would like to hike there with our young grandkids. Thanks

I only saw small animals during my visit but, it's always a good idea to carry bear spray and be aware just in case.
Can you rent snow shoes at the visitor centre?

To the best of my knowledge they have them available when my husband and I did the First Hike of the Year Amy who was in charge of the event had extra gear. I would call just in case prior to your arrival.
