We arrived in Bangkok late and by the time we got to Tailek's House, it was way past midnight but Bee had actually been gracious enough to wait up for us, despite having her little boy to look after as well. (he was sleeping on the sofa bed in the living room where Bee waited for us to arrive) What can I say about this place? WOW is the first impression. It is more like a home away from home! There is an actual working kitchen....I don't think you'd be able to get this "homey" anywhere else, plus it is pretty modern too compared to some Thai/Asian kitchens that we've seen around S.E.A! The dorm is spacious and very clean, with a/c and your own locker plus the keys to it and to the g/h in case you were going to out and will be back late. We were given the 2nd floor dorm, because the 3rd was fully booked. It was nice to not see a cramped dorm like in some places we'd seen on our journey so far. The 2 bathrooms are really clean as well, and there is even a washing machine where you can do your own washing for a small fee. You can make your own coffee/tea/beverages if you had some with you, and even, buy food to cook in her kitchen if you wish to! We took a nice walk down to the market area and let me tell you this - you kind of feel really special being the only foreigners there! We are within city limits and yet, the feel of this whole place is so local! It is so heartwarming to get smiles from the locals and the way they talk to you, and try to speak English with you...it is an amazing feeling. I really really love the fact that Tailek's House is situated in an area where it is not too far away from the city center, and easily accessible by the MRTs - there are 2 close by, so it is really very convenient. Whoever that was saying that it is far away from the city ought to have done their homework. It is a few stops to Sukhumvit, and also, the Chatuchak Weekend Market, to name a couple major lines, and at the end of the line, Hua Lamphong train station! How awesome is that?! We actually took the direct rail link from the Suvarnabhum Airport to Makkasan, and then hop on at Petchaburi station, that took us straight to Sutthisan. Easy peasy! One delightful and endearing thing about staying at Tailek's House, is waking up to the lovely aroma of Bee's curry! Bee has a small cafe which she serves up authentic Thai food, curries and soups. We ate at her cafe everyday while we were there, it was THAT good! :) Oh and btw, I managed to get a cooking lesson from Bee herself as she also runs cookery classes for guests who want to impress their family back home with authentic Thai dishes!!! :)) So yeah now I know the secret of a great Phad Thai! ;) It was sad when we had to leave after a wonderful week at Tailek's House. But we know that the experience we have had is nothing short of amazing and unforgettable. We know for sure where we will be staying at the next time we fly into Bangkok again! Thank you Bee and Tailek!…
