Worth a trip

Haven’t been here for years but it won’t be long until I go back because it’s lovely. The beach was clean and it’s a really pleasant place for stroll at any time of day.

Beautiful sunset and evening walk.
авг. 2021 г.
Me and my husband stayed in a nearby hotel and went down in the evening to watch the sun set over Formby beach and it was just stunning, the beach was lovely and clean despite there being quite a few people. It's a nice sandy beach, we took our shoes off and walked out to sea to watch the sun setting. Such a lovely evening

A wonderful lead up off the beaten track in an avenue surrounded by larch plantations, ancient sand dunes ripple like the sands of the desert as far as Southport the lead up through the trees to one of the most perfect beaches for bathing and families you will find exceptionally clean and managed by the national Trust visitors respect this place for what it is a haven for wading birds and sea life the beach of deep sand slowly drops into the sea a gradual gradient into deeper water no sudden drop into deeper I swam far out and could just touch the bottom very little undertow and the longshore drift takes the current on even an ebbing tide into shore further down, as a native of Whitby and a sea swimmer since childhood it is a very safe beach unlike morecambe or Sandsend nr Whitby that can have a powerful undertow. It was warm as the sun heats the silica in the sand so the water you can literaly just walk into it was a pleasure to sea so many lovely bathers and both my partner and I loved it spending a good hour in the sea without feeling cold we will come again, I myself swam here 20 years ago it hasn't changed a bit a wonderful wonderful safe place and nice people conscious of the wildlife in abundance that populate these shores the wind turbines spoil the sunset I remember these been erected when I lived and sailed back and forth from Isle of man shame they spoil a beautiful vista bird sounds echo on a night or evening as we left like something out of greys elegy, and tolled the knell of parting day.

Beautiful beach to rival anywhere
авг. 2021 г.
Visited Formby last week with our dog on a pretty grim weather day. Despite the rain and wind we had a nice time and our pooch had the time of her life chasing birds and waves. Formby itself is a very clean beach with beautiful sand dune formations. There is also a nice woodland walk slightly inland. We used the National Trust Victoria Road car park as it has toilets and we are members. The Lifeboat Road car park is closer but doesnt have toilets. Overall we had a lovely day, allbeit soaking wet but Formby is beautiful enough to rival any beach anywhere.

A lovely, lazy sunny walk on the beach (if the UK weather permits!)
июль 2021 г.
Went when the heatwave was on and mid week to avoid crowds. Absolutely stunning. We went through the NT trust part and it was very clean. The dunes are beautiful and the reflections off the sea from the sun just added to a wonderful day out. Its dog friendly so took our young lad there for his first time experience on a beach and he loved it. Everyone just chilling, relaxing and being happy certainly adds to the experience. Also while your there visit the Red Squirrel reserve, its stunning!

Best beach ever. Lifeboat Rd car park is the quieter end of beach.
авг. 2021 г.
We went on a slightly overcast day, got there around 2pm and parked in the Lifeboat Rd car park at the southern end of the beach. The combination of these three factors meant we avoided all the issues people complain about in other reviews. Car park was mostly empty, I counted maybe 20 people aside from us on the whole massive beach. No yobs, rubbish, dog mess etc. We practically had the whole place to ourselves and it was fantastic. The sand dunes would've been worth going for alone. So much fun! Kids explored them and found what they called huge "sand slides". Probably the best beach we've ever been to in the UK. So pretty, huge great swathes of hard sand, warm water, friendly life guards. All kids agreed Formby beach was the highlight of our holiday. We left close to 6pm and the toilets were closed in the car park by then but there was still a porta-loo open. There are literally no amenities (save for the above mentioned toilets). No shops of any kind, no pier, amusements, no fish and chips, nothing (it was even a hard job finding a shop in the nearby high street that sold buckets and spades!). So if that's your kind of thing then maybe not, but for us it was ideal.

Wonderful walking, super dog friendly, nice people - highly recommended

We recently visited Formby Beach with our dog (vizsla) and we all absolutely loved it!
The attendant was incredibly helpful and down to earth, and well worth the £7.50 parking fee.
Free toilets on site, an ice cream van and a butty van.

A great mixture of walks for all abilities and interests. A mixture of forest trail, flat beach and sand dunes.
We spent around two and a half hours there, but if you can with kids you could easily enjoy +4hrs.

beautiful

Loved visiting this place, amazing nature reserve, fantastic beaches and sand dunes, it is national trust and protected. Gorgeous walks. The only downside was the toilets which were terrible, dirty and blocked and closed at 4pm so if you have travelled was a problem, and unfortunatly some people leaving bags of rubbish in the sand dunes. Which is not the fault of the national trust but humans leaving there trash. The only reason why i didnt leave a five star. But the actual sight itself was stunning and i would definatly visit again

Fantastic Formby

The beach and surrounding area are so beautiful.
The best place to park is Victoria Road.
Please check the tide times for Formby Point.
If it is low tide the sea can be quite far out.

No disabled access or parking
июль 2021 г.
Arrived just before 10.45am, wasn’t sure where car park was at first as u drive through a housing estate. On locating the car park, the entrance was blocked off by Merseyside Police. No cars aloud to enter, sign said the car park was full. Cars where arriving thick & fast, parking within the housing estate, on double Yellow lines, in front of houses with driveways. Parking is at a minimum. Asked about disabled park & was told nothing was available. Having driven round a short time, found someone with a small waste land area letting cars park BUT charging £10 per car. Oh well better than nothing, however, having a disabled badge, National Trust car parking SHOULD have been FREE for us & £7.50 for anyone else. Getting things together, set off, its a bit of a walk through the housing estate down to the actual car park where there was Only 1 block of toilets that closed every day at 4pm. Very few people whilst queuing for the toilets were social distancing which was/is a huge worry. Came across an ice cream van the only source of food/drink available & purchased 2 lemonade ice lollies at a cost of £6 WOW. Eventually reached the car park only to find 4 empty disabled spots & loads of parking available that no one was aloud access to....How strange but very annoying 😡. So NO ONE was manning the car parking & letting the police further up know how much parking was still available. The only way onto the beach was to climb up a HUGE sand dune which is NOT suitable for a disabled person. I’d hate to think how long the response time would be in an emergency. If we’d have know this, we would never have gone. In the car park are signs strictly stating NO BBQ’S but oh no what did we see, bbqs everywhere and not 1 patrol person to stop it from happening. Once on the beach which was covered in jellyfish there are NO facilities, NO NOTHING. With a 21+ mile long beach you would think there’d be something available. 95% of people on the beach where all flocked together like a huge huddle of penguins within the fascinaty of the car park, NOT COVID SAFE. National Trust let use down badly on this visit, NO disabled park, NO disabled access, NO disabled facilities, NO patrol manning/enforcing rules (bbq etc) Not a very good experience 😡😡😡
