What a great place this is, I visited to look at the exhibition of local artists’ work, which was well presented. The food here is excellent - I can highly recommend the orange and almond cake, which was freshly baked and still warm from the oven. I would say it’s the best Ive ever had. A hidden gem of a place.

Excellent exhibition space, food very good, friendly staff and sculpture trails fascinating. Strongly recommend.

We took our elderly friend to see the peacocks, and for some light refreshments. This place is a real hidden gem, and not to be missed. The home made cakes are amazing, and baked on site, and a wholesome menu, which we looked at, but arrived too late. Set in beautiful surroundings, it's an amazing artists haven. Original artwork, pottery classes and so much more..and art work for sale!
We'll definitely be back, and I highly recommend to visitors.

Lovely cosy rooms. A very warm welcome from the hosts. Excellent food made with fresh produce. The cakes are especially good. Joining one of the art activities helps to make the break special. Easy reach of interesting walks.

I have just returned home after spending 2 nights in the Mid-Wales Arts centre.Wow! what an amazing place which I can wholeheartedly recommend.Nothing was too much trouble for Cathy and John (the hosts and owners). After a 4 hour drive, we arrived too late for any local pub/restaurant to give us an evening meal, and within 1/2 an hour, Cathy had produced a delicious spread of cold cuts and salads and even a bottle of wine! The breakfasts were a banquet in themselves-fresh fruit platter, a choice of cereals, orange juice, yoghurt, scrumptious cooked dishes of one's choice and toasted artisan bread accompanied by Welsh cakes.
The accomodation was spotlessly clean and although the end of December was beautifully warm.We certainly intend to return, a real hidden gem!

The mid Wales Arts Centre is an amazing place. The Centre showcases the work of Stefan Knapp. He is not the household name of contemporaries Henry Moore or Barbara Hepworth. But his contribution to British post-war art is as important. By using new materials and techniques he created vibrant murals for public buildings including schools, hospitals, museums and airports. The art needs to work in large, modern buildings and as a result is highly coloured and finished.
In addition to the many murals are sketches, drawings and sculptures. His large, later work is shown in a modern gallery building while the smaller and more intimate pieces are displayed in the house. These are very well presented, keeping furniture in the rooms to give it a home feel rather than a museum. The house and outbuildings are surrounded by pleasant gardens which have more sculptures.
If you are at all interesting in art and visit art exhibitions in large cities you won't be disappointed with the quality of the artwork on display. If you are looking for a family day out it is also fine. There is even a children's sculpture trail where the works are at eye level for smaller visitors.
There is a central courtyard with outdoor seating. The cafe also has some tables indoors. It serves lunches as well as teas and cakes and vegetarians are well accommodated. In a creative touch, the tables are parts of a mural that was made but never installed. They are beautiful as furniture!
In the cafe building is a further gallery space which is showing work by mid-Wales artists. This includes paintings, lino prints, pottery, jewellery and textiles. Most of these works are for sale and many take inspiration from the mid-Wales landscape. The centre also runs art classes and has B&B accommodation - can't comment on these as we were visiting for the day.
Only comment would be it needs some clearer signage of where to go when you arrive as a visitor. Its not clear where you are supposed to start looking around or if you need to pay (its free). Thinking a bit more about how people begin their visit and are welcomed would help people start their visit confidently.

Warm welcome to a lovely location even though it was quite late & given a full explanation of the layout of the property. We were pleasantly surprised to be given 2 rooms above the gallery/cafe which had been converted from stables; they were modern,clean, secure & well fitted out. Beds were very comfortable after a hard days cycling & the bathrooms were as spotless as the rest of the property. It was a short drive into Newtown where we spent a pleasant evening in La Terrazza followed by drinks in the Pheasant. It was very peaceful on our return & following a good nights sleep we were treated to a fantastic breakfast featuring lots of healthy options including fruit platters etc. The poached egg on toast was a delight especially with the baked sausage & grilled bacon (nothing fried 🤣). The hosts couldn’t have been more helpful or friendlier - highly recommended!

We came to look at the art, not to stay at the B&B as I only live down the road from here. My friend Lilly (who was visiting from China) and I were warmly welcomed by Cathy, who gave us a list of the numbered art pieces so we could follow the information on each piece in the sculpture garden and the various buildings and barns all the wonderful pieces were housed.
After oohing and awing over the many many sculptures, paintings, collages, pottery, etc, and admiring the grounds and scenery beyond, we went inside to the cafe and had a coffee. Cathy showed us most of the house, and all the bedrooms that were not occupied. We sat with her in her lounge and chatted awhile about her vision for the Centre and about upcoming events, of which there is always something happening, be it art lessons in pottery and sculpture, painting, poetry evenings, jazz evenings, etc.
We were thoroughly impressed and agreed Cathy was a really cool woman. Will definitely go back again, it's a great place to take friends and visitors. There is a 'suggested' donation box in the hallway, which we generously fed, as it was well deserved.
