The staff were very friendly. The exhibits were great, although the explanations could have been clearer at times. There were no guides or working exhibits when we visited, but then it was over the Christmas period, so I suppose they were on their break.
The museum looked as if it would benefit from a little TLC.
Overall worth a visit though, so I would recommend.

Great family activity for a few hours which was enjoyed by all in our group . educational about the textile trade and life and perils of the bygone days. Some good bits that the kids enjoyed. Amazing to see them turning wool into yarn! Large dining arrea.
Downside was the accessibility for the childrens buggy despite the staff being very friendly and offering to help. Also baby changing facilities were poor in fact we could not find them . All in all a good, fun activity for a few hours and just as I remember it from 30 years ago!

Wanted to love this museum as it has great potential. The inside displays are quite good but there is not narrative throughout. But the main complaint is that a significant proportion of the museum is outside and was completely closed for our visit. There is no mention of this on the website and no offer or a reduced entry fee accordingly. A real shame

What a brilliant group visit we experienced. We were led through the process of making cloth, from wool to finished product, in an informative way with demonstrations of working machines when possible. Anecdotes and history held our attention throughout our tour. Questions were answered well.
Loved the reconstructed theatre!
The initial talk could have been a little shorter so that we could have explored more at the end.

Visited by narrowboat and moored nearby.
This museum desperately needs a cash injection and bringing up to date as a visitor experience. It simply seems neglected and one floor and the outside weren’t available.
It has some strange exhibits that look as though they have been brought in from elsewhere to fill a space.
It’s such a shame as there are many interesting items to do with the history of the cloth industry; nothing was running, no guides, no interactive stories, no cafe - just a lot of reading.
There’s a beautiful replica cinema from somewhere which was showing Finding Nemo to an empty space. No idea why it’s there though. What a shame!
So disappointing. It’s in a great spot, has a good car park but it needs some thought and love. You spend a lot on your city, Leeds, so come on!

What a pity, this just felt that in it's day this would have been a museum the residents of Leeds would have been very proud of. To me it seemed long term unloved and run down, despite an abundance of history, the place was depressing to visit. How sad, shame on Leeds City Council that you couldn't find money to at least preserve this historic jewel, but you can for other nonsense short term fads.

This is something of a 'cradle of the industrial revolution' museum. Built in 1805, in its day it was the world's largest woollen mill. If you're interested in industrial archaeology and industrial social history, you'll spend hours here. Fabulous and helpful staff, with a special shout-out to the demonstrator and guide Barry. One thing to note is that there's no café, but there's an indoor picnic area which provides hot and cold drinks, and biscuits, etc.

Have been meaning to go for a while now as must be 30 years since our last visit, Did try earlier in the year but didn't realise that the bridge access from the Vue cinema complex was closed, it was a very rainy day and too far to walk so aborted our trip that day.
So on Thursday we caught the bus from Leeds bus station alighted near the viaduct on kirkstall road and walked up to the alternative entrance.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
There seemed to be fewer exhibits than last time and the site seems to be undergoing a lot of work outside so there was not a lot to see outside.
It was quite disappointing to see the state of the mill race and the water wheel was totally neglected and overgrown.
There was a demonstration of the weaving machine and the person running the machine was quite knowledgeable.
Overall it was quite interesting and eye opening to the working conditions of children and adults, in fact it was nothing short of slave labour.

Visited here on the way back from an overnight stay in Bradford.
Unfortunately, I found this somewhat lacking.
Inside, which was interesting, there were no guides or volunteers to explain how the machinery worked and unlike when Susan Calman visited, no guide actually demonstrating use of the looms.
At least I know what a blanket loom looks like now though.
The recreated cinema was nice, but again, no guides or volunteers to explain why the emphasis.
The school room was closed off and locked.
Outside parts of the museum were cordoned off for flood alleviation work and to protect Canada Geese nesting.
The outside space and equipment were not in the best of conditions.
There was also no cafe. We were told we "could make ourselves a cup of coffee" but we had hoped to get lunch.
I realise that councils do not have the money to spend, but I came to Armley Mill as there is now no museum in Dewsbury, from where I have ancestors, hoping that Armley would give me a glimpse into the life they led.
Sadly, I wouldn't visit again unless this was vastly improved.

My son and I enjoyed the atmosphere on the top floor made real by a chap operating the Mule, who was a great story-teller and was very knowledgeable about the working conditions within the mill. I rate him 5 stars! The rest of the building was interesting but could be improved using guides (like the chap) to bolster a more original experience, with better use of sounds and smells, etc. Overall, we enjoyed the Mill experience.
