August 2022 we went to Kyrgyzstan - more specifically Osh and the Allay heights for a riding expedition in the mountains.
We chose this above other travel agencies because we wanted to go not in a large group and how lucky we were! Just my boyfriend and I, an English Speaking guide and the horse caretakers and guides.
Our guide Abdulkadyr was truly friendly and hospitable and he arranged for us to go for an unplanned trip to Jalal-Abad on our first day to visit his home town.
The horse trek itself was AMAZING. However, be aware that crossing the Alay Mountains is tough terrain and nature, so not classified as an easy ride.
The horses for this trip were truly amazing and kept very sure on their footing even through rough terrain. The views were stunning.
The people in the yurt camps and guesthouses along the way were very friendly and the children very curios and engaging.
As it so happened we were very close to the Pamir Mountains at the time of the yearly Too Mountain festival. We spoke to Abdulkadyr and were were fortunate to be able to alter our plans slightly so we could attend the festival - which mostly drowned in rain - but hey you can't control the weather.
Give yourself sufficient time to explore these mountains, so don't deny yourself from a lifetime adventure.
All in all a trip to remember - just be aware of the pull of those mountains! Once there, you may not want to leave!

Last month, I went on a 2 weeks tour of Kyrgyzstan, organised by Kyrgyz Tourism. It was my first time travelling since the covid pandemic and my first time visiting the Central Asia region. I was joined by other solo travelers from other countries, such as USA, Spain and Poland.
The tour package is very comprehensive and I travelled to many parts of the country such as Song Kul Lake and Issyk Kul Lake, Bishkek, Osh, Jalal-abad, Tash Rabat, Altyn Arashan, Burana and Uzgen towers and others.
Kyrgyzstan is a truly beautiful countries with diverse sceneries - you have beautiful lakes, snow-capped mountains, wide grassland, gorgeous gorges and valleys, windy and mountainous roads and more! And it is very natural - you have cattle and livestock roaming freely in the fields and mountains - and at times, the driver might even need to honk at them to get them away from the roads!
We were also lucky and chanced upon many authentic and cultural Kyrgyz experiences - we joined the locals during lunch at a yurt, chanced upon a Kyrgyz wedding celebration, stayed and lived in a yurts and homestays, participated in horse-riding, felt-making, archery and eagle hunting demonstration.
The temperatures (in Celsius) can range from the high 30s in the cities to the low single digits in the lakes and mountains, so do be prepared.
The only downsides are the roads can be quite bumpy at times - especially the 4WD up Altyn Arashan and the food can be quite meaty. Had some vomiting and diarrhea but nevertheless it is mild and manageable - some mild health hiccups when travelling to less developed countries is not uncommon. But that is what makes it authentic - you want to visit a country such as Kyrgyzstan that is still pure and untouched by mass tourism!
Importantly, you also get to help support the local community as many (more than half) of the accommodation used by Kyrgyz Tourism are yurts and homestays.
Thank you (Rakhmat) to Aisha and the Kyrgyz Tourism team for coming up and organizing such a comprehensive and enriching tour package. Also, thank you to my guide Ulan and driver Kanat for making the trip a wonderful and memorable one! I would strongly recommend prospective travelers to visit Kyrgyzstan and choose Kyrgyz Tourism!!

It was one of the best tours I've ever done, and I've already done some great tours in Germany, in the Alps, in Nepal, in Turkey, in Africa. However, this tour was awesome. Nine days on the road, eight days in the saddle and enjoying the world from this perspective. The view of one of the most beautiful landscapes in the world between the horse's ears. Wonderful.
So, it was a very nice tour, very well organized, the team very professional, the horses very sure-footed, food and accommodation perfect. The landscape is impressively beautiful, but also challenging. Therefore - in my opinion - not suitable for every absolute beginner. Absolutely recommendable for everyone with a certain amount of riding experience or for those who are active in a variety of sports. And for everyone who wants to take their time and enjoy it.

I went on a 5 day tour that included Son Kul and a 3 day hike to Ala Kul. The itinerary was delivered as advertised. My guide Ruslan was knowledgeable and friendly. The price was much fairer than the same itinerary with any other agency I checked with.

It was a great adventure! Everything was perfectly planned and prepared. The food was always delicious and plentiful. The organizers and all local people were always available to help and answered every question. More than a month since I came home and I still can't believe I had such a wonderful experience! I can't wait to come back to Kyrgyzstan - this time in the summer! I recommend it with all my heart !!!

We had a great experience. Kyrgyzstan has beautiful landscape, and harmony among people, nature and animals. We are parents around 60 years old and our son 22 years old joined us. Our (female) guide Saltanat and the driver Nourlan were impressively professional and kind. The trip was tailored to fit our wish for adventures and interest, but not too difficult. The weather was good. The trip was loaded with highlights including riding well trained horses, Yurt accommodation, visiting local families, animal and food markets, Burana archeological site, hot springs, salt cave, Eagle man, rivers and lakes and more. We strongly recommend Kyrgyz Tourism, Saltanat and Nourlan.

Our guide, AZAMAT, was super in all ways. Informative, extremely flexible with all of our requests and itinerary changes. The company could not be more honest or professional.

Nomadic Horse Trek for beginners!
From the first communication with Kyrgyz Tourism (Myrzabek) they were fabulous. They arranged our itinerary exactly as we requested and even booked our PCR tests in Bishkek and took us to a beautiful restaurant for the final evening. They treat you as a guest not as a client.
The horse trek is quite simply incredible from start to finish, riding across the most breathtaking mountain scenery, through valleys, over high passes, crossing rivers, up and down steep paths surrounded by colourful wild flowers. You will see thousands of horses, sheep, goats with their herdsmen, Golden Eagles souring high in the skies and Marmots observing you from the hills. You will camp in the wildest places, pass through many yurt settlements and stay with the kindest, most welcoming Kyrgyz people in their traditional yurt camps.
Our English speaking guide Ulan was always attentive and taught us so much about the country, it's people, history and culture. Our horsemen Idris and Nur were outstanding, hardworking and friendly.
The trip is for beginner horse riders with no experience necessary but the trek is also undoubtedly physically challenging, we were exhausted every night but always amazed at what we had seen and done. You are trekking in the mountains and therefore experience mountain weather which means even in summer you can expect four seasons in a day, rain, wind, cold, hot weather etc. Note it is cold at night as you will always be at 2500 - 3000m above sea level, so bring appropriate clothing.
To summarise this trip was incredible and we would love to do it again in a different part of beautiful Kyrgyzstan. If you want an adventure but are not in to mountain trekking on foot this could be for you!

Kyrgyzstan Tourism company” was one of our most successful trip post two years of COVID-19 pandemic period. We spend around 11 days in Kyrgystan and the itinerary was selectively designed to touch base on Kyrgystan beautiful nature, culture and historical sites. Our tour was arranged by Ms. Aisha who was very prompt in her communication and very attentive to all the detailed requests from our side about the accommodation standards, food preference and the Kyrgyz cultural experience that we want to see the most. Upon our arrival,we were lucky to be escorted with Ms. Aisha and Mrs. Morzabek who both made our long drive so enjoyable with fun and new experience. We stayed in very clean guest houses with wonderful families and delicious cooking local Kyrgyz dishes. We experienced many traditional activities with locals such as Yurt setup, Golden Eagle hunting, felt making process, bread cooking and making, horse milking, wearing local costumes, attending local wedding demonstration etc. We made wonderful picnic stops along the road and enjoyed the breathtaking sceneries that were surprisingly changing along the trip between lakes, mountains, valleys, glaciers and pastures. We are so grateful to Aisha and Morzabek for arranging for us such wonderful tour with very rich experience about Kyrgystan beauty and culture.
