Be ready for a extremely long hike carrying a heavy pack . Be ready to get bad sleep in uncomfortable places. Be ready to get hot sweaty and live in those clothes for 4-5 days. If you are ready to do that you are ready for a rewarding adventure you will likely never be able to top in your life. See Pripyat up close and in person. This is not the luxury van tour with a pretty guide on a microphone in the front . This is the get down in it tour as you weave your way through the brush and broken buildings , up and down decaying stairwells and crawling across rooftops to amazing views. This is the climb on it sit in it and touch it tour, and it’s hard , dirty and AMAZING! If your not ready for a it it’s going to suck , if your ready for it it will be the most bad ass thing you have ever done!

Stas and Ivan are excellent guides and have far more knowledge than most. Even with the increased security from the last few weeks, their skills enabled us to avoid capture the whole time we were in the zone. Unfortunately, bad weather made the visit to Duga impossible (it is better to go in June for this). However, climbing one of the tallest buildings in Pripyat for sunset was one of the best experiences I have ever had - spectacular views.
If you want safe routes and the best guides, these guys should be your choice for a true Stalker experience.

I’ve been thinking about visiting the Chernobyl zone for a long time since I read the "Roadside Picnic" by Strugatsky Brothers. Finally this September I had a chance and a good spirit to take on that adventure.
We started at nightfall and we were mostly moving during the night to avoid the security guards. If we were walking down the road we weren't using any flashlights and our eyesight adapted pretty fast. The sky amused us every night with the countless amount of stars shining so brightly. I remember when I saw it during the first night I thought that only seeing this was worth going there. But that miraculous frozen view was disturbed by the parade of Starlink satellites moving linearly one after another that we saw one night.
One of the most beautiful things I had a chance to experience there is an absolute quietness. If you stand quietly there is nothing else to hear around except the elks who made quite a show with their sounds as it was their mating season.
We entered Prypyat in the morning after making a night long 32km track.
Prypyat is a young city, well organized with a good infrastructure it had back in the days for such a small town including theater, cinema, swimming pool, and attraction park. We went to rest to one of the stalkers' apartments.
There is a lot of stuff lying around on the ground that normally would not, like some machinery parts. And sometimes you feel like it's a bit surreal and you are in some kind of game. As if it could only be true.
Visiting old apartments and houses lets you travel in time. Of course, a lot of stuff was taken away by the special forces or marauders during the 90s but it still has that feel like it just stopped one day and that there is something that was missing - humans.
One day we went to the top of the 16th floored building to look at the New Shelter of the New Safe Confinement for the 4th reactor of the Chornobyl Nuclear Power Plant. We also had a chance to look at it from different side views but it always looked so huge and enormous that didn't fit in the whole picture. One can never just look at it without thinking about whats happened. Once a place to certify people's great achievements in science, now a symbol that reminds all people of the cost and consequences of an error.
Nature took over the city a long time ago and now it looks more like a city in the forest. All the trees are around the height of 7-8 floors and there are trees a few meters in height growing on the top of the buildings.
Again I experienced the universality and mononimity of the Soviet Union. We visited a kindergarten, and to my surprise or not really I found myself standing in the same designed room as when I was a kid. I could stay in the middle of the room and say where each door is heading - sleeping room, restroom, or changing room. Not to mention that there is an exact same copy, a twin school in Pripyat and the one I went to in Kalush.
We also went up north of the Prypyat River, visiting the Amusement Park on our way, to visit some places and villages that even Stalkers go to. We had a chance to see and discover old houses, a church, and a post office where we found records and postcards dated back to 1969.
On our way back we had a chance to walk during the day and saw some places of recent fires that happened in the zone. We had plenty of time to think about what we've seen for the last couple of days. But one thing did not go away from our heads - the impact of humanity on our world.

Bravi. Grandi!

It‘s a pretty and exhausting hike, but it is totally worth doing. You will see a lot of different and amazing lost places in the Chernobyl exclusion zone.

We went in late autumn and we were very lucky with the weather and the almost golden autumn light in the zone. It was beautiful, magic and humbling. I was a teenager when the accident in Chernobyl happened and it was a very intense experience to go there now and see with my own eyes. They are very good guides and you can learn so much from them during this trip about this place and its meaning for humanity. You get a much deeper understanding than by reading or going to a Museum. The nature and the walking is very good on your soul and I felt safe at all times. I think it is good, that it is physically challenging. It is important to be in good shape to enjoy the hiking and you are rewarded by a very special experience.

Where do I begin? For an adventurer or an enthusiast, this is the only way to go. Visiting the zone like this allows you to see things that most never do. The places you will see in the outer exclusion zone on your way to Pripyat such as the small villages, cemeteries, churches, houses and bus stops is a real eye opener. When people think of Chernobyl and the people that had to leave, most will think of the footage of people leaving Pripyat on busses. Seeing the outer exclusion zone really gives you an idea of the wider impact of the events of 1986 and just how many other people within the zone had to leave their homes behind, never to return.
Our guides were very experienced. They had already visited the zone 17 times this year alone and have been doing so for many years. They are intimately familiar with the safest routes (both in terms of radiation hotspots and security patrols). They run a very professional operation and organise everything you will need from transport to the Ukrainian army MRE packs which was a nice surprise for us. At the end of our trip we stopped by their place in a much more rural part of Ukraine were they treated us to some homemade Ukrainian vodka and Salo before taking us back into Kiev.
These guys have an excellent knowledge of the zone and have a passion for its preservation. They are friendly, have a good sense of humour but above all they are professionals. I would recommend them to anyone interested in visiting Chernobyl.
