We arrived at Madang, Papua New Guinea as part of our 43 day Maasdam cruise circling Japan to Sydney, Australia. After docking at the commercial port, we disembarked to walk 1 km south along the town's main street to the Sir Donald Cleland Park(water lilies) when a small taxi-truck($2) took us 2 km further to this circular museum.
A totem and several female flower pot holders marked the entry where we paid $1 each to see its large one room exhibit hall. I noted its 'Kon Tiki' boat model, spears and drums while my wife studied its large masks and Bird of Paradise collection. After reading several WW 11 exhibits with photos and war relics, we walked 3 km north along Machine Gun Beach and its golf course to the prominent 1959 Coast watchers Light. A km further on, we stopped at Kaliboro Village Resort for their free shuttle back to the port, a productive morning of historical information and plenty of exercise.

A potted history of the country will so many artifacts that I spent over an hour and left not having explored it all!

Tout petit mais magnifique musée : de très belles pieces, de nombeux masques des tribues proches, personnel très accueillant et bien expliqué
Par contre, ne comptait pas sur eux pour vous organiser une excursion

the museum has some interesting exhibits- and a pleasant way to spend half an hour. Annoyingly you can't take photos.

amazing displays ...informative and stunning collection of artefacts and ephemera...not only about local culture but missionary era and WW2. Dont miss it...

it's definitely worth visiting. Wonderful displays of old mask and other ancient items, baskets, documents and you name it. You'll be surprised. No pictures allowed inside but you can take some outside where there are some carved statues and other wood carvings and most likely some local vendors with a selection of arts/craft items, etc.
