This place was a pleasant surprise, both in terms of location (views of Sedona's red rock formations are super) and service. A Ranger spent considerable time showing us appropriate hikes and things to do on a very detailed map.
There are a lot of interesting exhibits.
Gift shop had numerous informative books and nice T shirts

The rangers at the visitor center were very helpful discussing trail options for our group. We got a map of the area with trails marked and detailed suggestions for EASY walks.

This is a must stop spot for anyone looking to receive background information about the natural beauty surrounding visitors to Sedona. The station is chock full of informative displays, many of which are interactive in nature. The ranger manning the information desk will be able to answer any questions not covered within the educational display areas. Any bit of time spent here as you enter Sedona is well worth it (especially if you have kids).

Heck, even if the educational offerings are of no interest, the clean bathroom facilities and magnificent outdoor viewing area should offer more than enough incentive for folks to stop in.

Take some time to enjoy what the ranger station has to offer...

We drove by the afternoon before and it was already closed. So, we planned to return today in order to get information before heading out.

We felt we needed more information in order to get our bearings and better plan our time in Sedona and the surrounding area. We stopped in about noon on a Thursday in January.

It was not too busy and we were able to talk with a gentleman working the information counter. He was very friendly and informative and gave us great suggestions and provided maps with notations. He told us that he does not normally work the counter but enjoys it. I wish we had gotten his name to give him some recognition because he was extremely helpful! He also confirmed that our new "America the Beautiful" pass could be used at the US forest service locations.

This Ranger Station also has a small museum and gift shop with a fair amount of Smokey the Bear swag.

This was a very important stop for us before exploring the area and we would highly recommend to others who are first timers to the area.

The station was closed when we visited, but the excellent view from outside is the main attraction anyway. It's free. You can see many of the formations in the area. Just a warning: Pictures do not properly capture the view.

Definitely worth a visit. They have a small shop inside which has some cool things. Additionally, the park ranger who assisted us was fantastic and provided us sound recommendations for the limited time we had to spend. We first ventured over and hiked the Shay Canyon trail. This trail was fun, even though there was no water in the creeks or waterfalls. At the end, it’s a “must do” to climb up to the top as the views are spectacular and well worth the climb. Thereafter, we ventured to the Broken Arrow trail, another recommended trail, and were not disappointed. Though we didn’t make it totally to the spot they recommended, we did get to see a remarkable view. Both trails were easily achievable, especially if you only have half a day to spend.
