We were part of a group from Jerusalem Tours, owned in part by the father of this team. The son shared several wines for our tasting. We also sampled Arak which was our selection.

Make sure not to miss this great winery while traveling in the north of Israel. Impressive views of mount Tabor and its sorroundings will make your visit perfect.

We were near Mt. Tabor and saw a sign on the road for Ziv Winery so decided to check it out. It is in a little village called Kfar Kisch, We found the winery very easily as there are signs all through the village. when we came to Ziv Winery, Gilad came out to greet us. He offered a tour of the winery and tasting for 25 NIS per person. If we chose to buy wine, then we would not have to pay the tour and tasting fee. We agreed and he started to walk us towards one of the small vinyards that they have. In actuality they have over 40 dunams, over somewhere close to 10 acres of vines. The winery is organic, and Gilad is a sound man, and has set up speakers in the vines and the grapes enjoy the music, and it keeps the crows away!
They use compost for fertilizers which is mainly from the ducks and chickens that walk around through the vines. The view is spectacular!!!
Walking up towards the visitors center through a lovely garden, Gilad explained that the door to the center is many hundreds of years old, and his father bought the door and decided to build the winery around it.
We were given a tour and explanation inside the visitors center where they actually produce and store the wines. They have volunteers who come and help them pick and crush the grapes, and work with them on the wine process until it is bottled. It was quite heart-warming to hear the story and I would love to be one of their volunteers next picking season!
We had low expctations for the wines and of how they would taste, and of course we were very pleasantly surprised. The Merlot is smooth, and un-merloty. I am not a lover of merlot but this one has me hooked! The Petit Verdot, a wine that I did not even know grew in israel was exquisite and the Special Jasmin is really special!!!
The Rose is also delicious!!!!
Typically we tend to buy 1 or maximum 2 bottles when we visit a winery but this time we bought 6! They gave is a 10% discount and also gave us a free bottle of the Rose!!!!
It was a pleasure to spend the time with Gilad, met his lovely father as well and to taste their delicious wines!
They instantly made us feel like we were old friends and we will definitely go back time and time again to renew our stocks of their wines!
I recommend to anyone who is in the area and likes wines, to take the time and visit their premises. They also have a bedroom that you can rent to stay in the area.
This is a magical place!!!
