Went here with my folks for a day trip from Fort Myers and was pleasantly surprised. There are restrooms located right at the parking lot and a "spoil pile" from the phosphate mines that is near the boardwalk entrance way. You can search through these piles for fossil shark teeth and other marine fossils. I was told by one of the volunteer staff here that these spoil piles are refreshed about once every 6 months. No entrance fee here. The museum itself is fairly small, but very interesting. Plenty of rare fossils on display. Staff was very helpful and eager to assist answering our questions. Well worth a visit - especially if you are a fossil hunter!

The phosphate museum was small but extremely informative and interesting. We learned a lot about the mining industry as well as what they put back into the area mined. I think they have gotten a bad reputation due to misinformed people. Now as far as the area for shark teeth etc. It was like a kid gravel lot with no real teeth to speak of. Stick to the museum Remember it's also free or a donation

Located at the intersection of FL RT 60 and 39 in Mulberry. Nice little museum was very educational. It's maybe a 60-minute visit and well worth the stop. Nice little display of fossil found while mining for the phosphate.

I took my 6 yr old grandson to this museum, 2nd visit! It displays what phosphates are and how they're used in our life. It's a self guided tour of several train cars and buildings displaying fossils and and bones of what was found here under the earth. The person inside will loan you a digging tool and a bag for your fossil hunt outside under a Mulberry tree. We knealed outside slowly digging for fossils and shark teeth. We have found one on each visit with other small fossils.

Displays and graphics in converted (air conditioned!) box cars show the formation and processing of FL's mega phosphate industry. Fossils, mining, remediation mountains, etc. And there's a container-load of the unprocessed gravel you can dig through to find fossils, sharks' teeth, etc. A side of the FL economy you might not be aware of.

Worth the stop to see some of the areas history. You will see things you do not expect...dinosaur bones? Phosphates, Railroads and Sharks Teeth...who knew. Pleasant staff. Even a “dig” area for the kids.

This was one of my favorite free things to do as a kid. My mom would take us to get McDonalds next door and then we would walk over to the museum and hunt for fossils for hours. It is great for younger kids to look for fossils and sharks teeth. The museum also has an old train car that you can tour. Definitely check the hours. I think they are closed Sundays and Mondays and only open certain hours of the day.

The museum has an outdoor area where Mosaic, the mining company, brings raw materials from their nearby phosphate mines. The gravel-like material contains prehistoric shark teeth, as well as other prehistoric artifacts such as bones, etc.
There is a guide poster outside by the dig are so you can see what you are finding.
I took my visiting brother-in-law and nephew there and we found over 100 shark teeth in an hour and a half - a great adventure!

If you like fossils and arrow heads, you might find enough here to make the trip worth your while. After all it is free. However, the phosphate info and Mulberry history is an easy find on Google. If you're driving by stop in but don't go out of your way.
