The church of the assumption is the oldest church n Kasli. It is not functioning today, and is in the process of being restored. It was the first church in Kasli, as a wooden church was erected on the site in 1761. It is easily reached by walking south on Sovetskaya Street, past the museum, and taking a right. Walk past the industrial building, and the shape of the old church will be seen on the left. There is a memorial stone dedicated to the church, which is to the left of the path. It is dated 2010.
The wooden church was burnt in the Peasants' War of 1773-1775. It wasn't until the 1870's that the construction of a stone church was completed. The bell tower was higher than the Ascension Church, and the church once again was the most prominent in town. Unfortunately, it didn't survive Soviet times, as it was closed in 1930, and the bell tower removed. It was turned into a factory. The church was built on lands owned by the manager of the factory, which were purchased from a rich merchant in Yekaterinburg, who built the Rastorguev-Kharitonov Palace.
The restoration of the church is a huge project, but it is an important part of the towns history. If you are interested in history, the site is worth a visit, but just for a few minutes, as there is not much to see.
