It's a looong but easy walk in the wood to reach the beautiful panoramic viewpoint at the very end. There are view points along the trails but I cannot say they are worth it or memorable.
We still recommend to walk the loop starting from the west side. It's a bit harder, but there is no one walking on it, and it adds variety to the hike.

Fantastic. We’re early 50’s in decent shape and hike regularly. This is a good workout and not suitable for someone out of shape. Wear good footwear and pack some food and water. 4.5 hours with a 30 minute stop at the point. Kudos to the staff who maintain this well canopied trail. Free parking and 30 minutes from Wolfville.

Sehr schöne Wanderung. Aber erst an der Spitze der Halbinsel zeigt sich die gesamte Schönheit. Relativ anstrengend da doch sehr lange und auch immer wieder bergauf - bergab. Unbedingt ausreichend Wasser mitnehmen

The view at the end is spectacular. The new trail, Scots Bay Trail, is well constructed but not very interesting. The older trail is more interesting but needs some work. It us torn up and muddy in quite a few places from what looks like maybe quads used for construction materials. The new viewing platform is awesome. I think it is called the Mines Basin Look-off. A few benches in the new look-offs would be nice,

My husband and I hiked this trail in late Sept 2021 while visiting the area for the first time. The hike itself was not hard, long, but not difficult. We recommend wearing quality footwear, preferably hiking shoes or hiking boots to give the soles of your feet as much support as possible over the terrain. We walked the day after heavy rain and many parts of the trail were very muddy, particularly the north side. There were some nice lookouts along the way but we wish there were more. Our biggest suggestion would be for the park to put some benches along the trail so hikers and sit and relax, have a break, and enjoy the surroundings.

It was a lengthy, pretty hike in/out with some impressive "look over" points along the way. Not too challenging but the view from the cliffs at the end with a picnic lunch made the trip for us!

We are mid 50’s and hiked the trail. It is steep in places, so proper footwear is a necessity. It took us about 2 hours each way, and we stayed at the look out for almost an hour; sitting on the ground, enjoying the sights, sounds and smells of the location (and a light lunch we packed with us).
This is lovely, mostly covered, hike. We had beautiful weather and a bit of a breeze and we were still sweating on the trip!
It is worth doing ore times for sure!!

Long hike plan to take your time and spend the day. The trail can be wet in the spring so come prepared, be sure to bring water and a snack. BE CAREFUL along the cliffs as they are eroding. DO NOT leave children unattended. The view is beautiful at the end of the trail and well worth the hike. If you take you dog PLEASE KEEP DOG ON LEASH and clean up after it. Follow the Pack it in Take it out rule please. This hike is not stroller friendly and will be difficult for younger children unless your willing to stop frequently and take your time as there are some steep hills.

Lots of parking. Benches by sea for relaxation. Hike is 2-3 hours each way. Up hill there. Down hill returning. Stunning views at Cape Split. Outhouses available. Lots of toilet paper!

This 6 k hike was a gradual grade. The trail was in pretty good condition except for a few muddy spots which were easy to get around. We went around mid October and it was a beautiful day. This was one of my favorite hikes we did while in Nova Scotia.

How do we time this hike to see the most dramatic tides?

I am not sure I would choose this hike for viewing the tides. The trail takes you up to the top of cliffs looking down. We visited Burntcoat Head Park to see the tides and Halls Harbour. Halls Harbour is a small fishing port with a lobster café. Burntcoat Head Park has a nice beach, views, lighthouse and picnic benches. Burntcoat would be my preferred option. Trip advisor will not let me post the link to the tide timetables but a google search will bring them up.

If I am only sending 5 days in Nova Scotia is it worth spending a day doing this? It will be my first time in Ns

If you are only going to be here for 5 days, although the hike is beautiful, there are many other views of the ocean that are easier to reach and just as breathtaking - Peggy’s Cove, Burntcoat Park, Louisbourg to name a few

As much as I would like to do this trail with my family, I have had foot surgery and I don't think it would be wise to do a 16 k trail without suffering repercussions. What are some other options to see this view? Can you kayak from Scot's Bay area? Or do you have to drive all the way to Advocate harbour?

Please don't kayak to Cape Split! That is a danger beyond compare if you don't know what you are doing! The whirlpools off the split are simply enormous! There may be times it is safe, but you need to know.....and know for sure! Otherwise dying is a serious option!

Is there a fee for entering the Provincial Park and hiking the Cape Split Hiking Trail?
WHMeg
Willoughby Hills, Огайо498 публикаций
There's no fee for hiking the trail. But make sure to allow plenty of time, not only for hiking, but also for spending time taking photos, taking breaks, or even eating snacks along the way.
What location should I look at on the Tide charts for the view at the end of this trail? Scot's Bay? Minas Basin? Something else? I am not seeing Cape Split listed on any of the charts. And if we can't be at the scenic viewpoint at either high or low tide, would you recommend timing it to see the tides coming in or going out? Thank you!

Can you see the Fundy tide action from this trail

Yes - but - it is not as dramatic as many people expect :) It's a great view from the top though
Can you take this trail in winter?
dkelliott01

Yes it is open in the winter but I'd be very careful. There are a couple parts with pretty steep slopes that lead to a drop off of a couple hundred feet so it could be very dangerous. But if you have the right equipment and you're very careful the park technically is open.
