We were here during the off season (September) so didn't encounter birding crowds. The welcome center is large with lots of exhibits, very well done. We took the board walk to a small overlook on the estuary; there is a wooden deck with large binoculars which are free to use. Saw lots of water birds; it was so peaceful and beautiful there. The walk to the overlook is short, only about 5 minutes. If you love nature and especially birds, visit here.

We had the best time!
The paths are very well maintained.
The signage is good.
It was quiet day, and it was a beautiful place to wander!
I just wish that the visitor center would have been open. It seems to have very limited hours (off season?).

I LOVE Old Woman's Creek!! The naturalists there are very knowledgeable. The trails well maintained and if you look at the right time you can spot eagles.

A Nice Place to Enjoy Nature

While the visitor center was closed due to COVID when we visited on a sunny, unusually warm early April mid-morning without much activity in terms of aquatic birds, only a couple of ducks and a few distant herons, we still enjoyed our visit. It was nice to walk the nearly 3 miles (9.7k) of well-maintained interconnecting loop trails; boardwalks in wet areas and crushed stone elsewhere, after a long northern Ohio winter made more difficult with the COVID lockdowns and restrictions. Despite the lack or water fowl, we did see numerous woodland birds, turtles, frogs, toads, squirrels and some early spring wildflowers.

Great in Any Season

This is our third trip, kayaking through the estuary and up the Creek in August, again in early November and now hiking the trails in January. Always scenic with eagles, egrets, heron and more. Gorgeous views in all three seasons. Kayak entry by the Lake Erie outlet is easy. The trails are clearly marked and well maintained. This has become our favorite spot for a brief escape. The N&W railway line just to the South always provides a freight train or two as well to fill out the scene

Fantastic adventure

Kayaking in Old Woman’s Creek was fantastic. The lotus flowers and lilies were in bloom. The water is easy to navigate and and the launch area is easy. We saw eagles, many herons and egrets. You do need to get a permit ahead of time but it comes promptly via email. You must have your own kayak or canoe.
We had the opportunity to talk with the ranger who filled us in on highlights to see and how to get there. Definitely a highlight of our trip.

Great hidden gem which offers a nice trail appropriate for leisure walking or some off the trail hiking as well. Scenic view of creek and Marsh that is home to a variety of wildlife including Great Egrets, Blue Herons, and a variety of other animals. Must do if you're in the area and enjoy the outdoors.

Amazing

We recently purchased kayaks and checking out different areas, called before hand to find out if we were Permitted to kayak which we were with filling out the permit and wow, what an experience. We have hiked here before, but to be on the water seeing the blue herons and bald eagles up close was just amazing. We will be back to this little paradise nearby!

Old Woman Creek SNP is also a National Estuarine Research Reserve. This treasure has hiking trails, a visitor center with helpful volunteers and a Nature Shop. There are many activities for the public to enjoy, such as guided canoe trips in the estuary, guided hikes, and brown bag lunches to name a few. Stop by the visitor center for a full list of events.

Wonderful nature preserve

Great place for a forest walk, with a side of wetlands! Wildlife and birds aplenty, and it's even possible to go on a guided canoe tour through the river's coves and inlets. One of our favorite places.
