Boardwalk stroll through the wetlands though pretty dry end of Summer. Still a nice and easy walk for famlies.

this wetland area has a boardwalk built over it for a thorough tour and visual treat of plants, birds and animalitos that live there. I took my kid there annually from the time he was three until he became a teen. We always enjoyed ourselves.

Walking through this wetland is one of my favorite things to do. All the wildlife is so fun to watch, the boardwalks make it an easy trek through all the seasons.

A great trip for families with little kids because the walk isn't too long, and it is lovely. Bring binoculars to see birds.

Nice place for a short walk through the wetlands with a good chance to see some wildlife. Can be wet and slippery depending on rainfall.

Great place for a short walk with kids. The boardwalk can be slippery and wet, so be careful. You will see few people and they are always friendly.

Despite road signs on US Route 20 indicating the wetlands, it’s tricky to find this 144-acre nature spot at the edge of a suburban neighborhood just north of Corvallis. Better to use your GPS. We ended up at a small parking area (free), with an adjacent sign telling us we were at the Jackson-Frazier Wetlands. Amazingly over 80 species of birds have been noted in this protected wetland.

A wide paved path leads from the parking area to an informational kiosk - which includes the history of the wetlands, community partners who funded & built it, and a huge bird ID chart. The “Bob Frenkel Boardwalk” trail begins here, and honors the Oregon State University geography professor who helped establish it.

The boardwalk is about a 2/3-mile loop where you walk on wooden planks the whole time. It’s about a half-an-hour stroll. Along the way, there are scattered benches so you can pause to take in the views & sights. Dogs on leashes are allowed, but as a courtesy to others enjoying the peacefulness of the walk, it is not really a dog walk area.

The path does allow for good wheelchair & stroller access, with ample wide spaces to turn around. The boards are worn, and the boardwalk gently zigzags through deciduous forest with impressive lichen-limbed ash trees, and open areas where dragonflies patrol over tall grasses. You‘ll likely hear the fussy calls of chickadees, and the occasional drone of an overhead plane; but otherwise it‘s rather quiet and un-crowded.

Unfortunately there were several places where faded interpretive stands were missing signs; and one spot where a bench had collapsed & was under re-construction. So the area was somewhat unkempt. Yet, the stroll was very calming, & we passed only one couple in the 45-minutes we were there.

Probably it’s best to see these wetlands when there’s water in the woods, and springtime birds are around - especially during nesting season. Mid-August it was dry; and the only birds we saw was a chattering flock of Bushtits foraging in the forest. We did hear other birds - scrub jays, sparrows, & the chickadees.

At one overlook, we were amazed to see an expansive area blanketed by purple mint flowers avidly visited by large bumblebees and honeybees. Further on, we saw one butterfly - a bouncy Lorquin‘s Admiral circling through the forest.

Note: there is no water; no picnic tables; no restroom here. I gave it an “average” rating as a tourist destination (especially when it‘s dry); yet for locals, I can certainly see the value of frequent walking there throughout the year. But if you’re in town visiting, do come for a walk, and brief nature-immersed getaway! And bring your binoculars for closer views of the birds & the bees!

This is a nice path if you want an easy walk or have someone with limited mobility. Parking is easy, the path is even. It is in the city but seems like you are in nature. The only challenge is it can be difficult to find if you miss the sign. Google maps does work. Please note this is note a dog friendly park.
