Our first visit to the Lincoln Tallman House was for the community Christmas Tree exhibit. It was absolutely the BEST way to kick off our holiday season! The glow of the many trees made such a cozy experience! They also had cocktails available in the basement that you could carry as you strolled through which made it super fun. Highly recommend this annual holiday tradition to support the RCHS.

Went to the holiday tree display-AMAZING! 120 decorated trees sponsored by various businesses. When I arrived, Santa was reading a story to a child. Really put me in the Christmas spirit. Something to note, the house is not handicap accessible and there are a lot of stairs.

We really enjoyed the tour of both the Lincoln-Tallman house/grounds, as well as the Historical Society building. All very interesting. Our docent for the house was very knowledgeable and gave us interesting details on the family, their community involvement, their close relationship with their servants, etc. And, of course, how it came that Lincoln spent 2 nites there - the only house in Wisconsin were he spent the nite.

The Historical Society was very interesting as well, and those working there were also very well versed and answered all of our questions. Having never been to Janesville, except driving through, we found this to be a very informative stop. We are glad we made the time to do it.

Lincoln-Tallman House tour was great and the docent, Dave, was extremely knowledgeable not only about the house and family, but traditions of that era. One of the best tours we have taken.

We had a tour of the Lincoln-Tallman House. It was built in 1850 and Lincoln slept there in 1959. Many of the furnishings are original to the house.

We live locally and have visited the campus and Lincoln Tallman House often with festivals, Christmas Tree Show etc. But with covid we were looking for something to do for a smallish group. The private tour was perfect thing to do. We also added a picnic on the grounds before and they served refreshments as part of the tour. We spent a delightful two hours there. The grounds are beautiful and lots of shade. The time the center staff spent during the shut down to update exhibits was well worth it. If you haven't been to the RCHS recently and Lincoln Tallman - Just call and book. $20 a person was well worth it!

If you are planning to visit soon know that you can visit by reservations only. Our tour guide Dave, was great. He may have been a little long-winded, but it was fascinating learning about the history of the house and the Victorian era. The house is one of the best preserved houses I've visited. It's called the Lincoln-Tallman House because Lincoln stayed their during a visit to Wisconsin. The house is larger than it looks and they are many pieces of furniture that were interesting to learn about. We did have to wear masks, which was a bummer because it's hard to do for that long. If you're wanting to learn a piece of history I suggest touring the house. They also have a nice museum with various art work and history about Janesville. It's called the Helen Jeffris Wood Museum. It's worth a visit as well. My only criticisms are to have more places to sit in the house, and the fact they take people's temperature. This is a problem where I live too. Many places are refraining from doing this because unless you have a licensed healthcare professional on-hand you can't tell whether or not someone has the virus by taking temperature. Someone in our group had a high temperature, but still under the threshold for the virus. We had been outside most of the morning at a Botanical garden, and had spicy food for lunch. This with the fact that the person was a red-head (who run hot anyway). It wasn't a problem, but I think it's sufficient to just require people to wear masks.

You have to make reservations before you visit this place. Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. There is so much history at this place. The Lincoln Tallman house has so much unknown history that you are told. It’s cool to visit and see the place where he stayed while he was here. It’s age appropriate for all ages and you will definitely learn new information. There is also a museum in the visitor center with a nice gift shop. I highly recommend visiting.

The individually guided tour of this very well preserved and presented house gives a fascinating insight into the time of its building and occupation.
