There is a nice visitor center and a short trail, uphill, to the ruins which were reconstructed. One building you can go in and go upstairs to where there is a nice view of the surrounding valley. It’s interesting to imagine who lived there. It’s worth the stop.

This is a pretty cool place to explore, and there is a small museum too. If you have a National Park pass, you (and your party) can get in for free. Otherwise it costs $10 per person, but that also includes Montezuma National Monument which is only a short drive away.

If you are interested in archaeology and the remains of native American settlements, Tuzigoot will be of great interest. If not, you can probably pass this up. It’s up on a hill with very nice views of the surrounding area. The $10 entrance fee seems excessive for what will likely be maybe a fifteen minute visit. Luckily, we did not have to decide whether it was worth it, as we had a lifetime pass and paid nothing. It was definitely worth that. Even more.

An informative visitor centre but the site disappoints. It seems that much of what you see has been reconstructed rather than preserved, so it is difficult to really relate to what you see. No doubt of great interest to enthusiasts but otherwise eminently missable

This National Monument is the only fully excavated ancient ruin in Arizona. The work was done in the 1930s and it is very interesting to see how the original residents construct their villages.

Tuzigoot National Monument is a large stone ruin. The ruin sits atop a very tall hill. It has clear views in all directions. It was also very windy at the time of my visit. The ruin covers a large area on the hill and has many small rooms. The roof of the tallest part of the ruin is accessible. There is a walking trail which circles the entire complex.

Tuzigoot is part of the National Park Service. I have a lifetime pass so was happy to use it.
We walked the area and read the signs, learning about the Native Americans who lived and thrived here in the 1300s.
Worth visiting.

The presentation in the museum of what transpired here was well done, although the story didn't seem an awful lot different than many other civilizations. The information was sufficient without going into a lot of depth. To us, the ruins were pretty much an afterthought. Easily skippable unless you haven't much knowledge of the Native Americans in this part of the country.

After attending an event at Montezuma's Castle, we used our pass to visit Tuzigoot. It was interesting. I would recommend going to Tuzigoot first (early morning) as there is little shade cover.

My wife and I visited tuzigoot for about two hours The visitor center building does an excellent job of explaining the history of the location and showing recovered artifacts and telling what it took to explore the site and preserve it. Walking the trail to see its restored rooms was very awesome. Hard to imagine living in that day and age, but very enlightening to see the ingenuity from 1000 years ago.

Hi, If I read your comments correctly, you can use your receipt from Montezuma's castle as a free pass to get into this National Monument? And it's $10.00 admission otherwise? WE are in our early 70's and love the southwest. Is it possible to do both Montezumas and this place in 1 day, comfortably? Thanks in advance!

You can comfortably hit Tuzigoot, Montezuma Well, and Montezuma Castle in a day if you start before noon. We did all three in about 4 hours but we were rushed to finish the last two before they closed at 5:00pm. The first two have some steep walkways but the loops are only 1/3 mile. Tuzigoot and Montezuma Castle cost $10 each but, if you plan on seeing other national parks during the year, consider getting the year pass. The Well is always free and is only 4 or 5 miles from the Castle. Tuzigoot is about a 30-45 minute drive from the other two. Take some snacks and water.

we were at Tuzigoot in the fall. we strolled through the guest center and saw everything but did not read everything.
we strolled the site, read everything, talked to a ranger and some other travellers. Not rushed. Took plenty of pictures.
it was 40 minutes from start to finish based on the time of our photos. we saw people come and go while we were there.
honestly i think an hour is more than enough time to do it justice.
it's not a big site, but it's a lot of fun.

Where is the lake located that I see in the picture?

The lake is difficult to reach, but can be approached from either the Tuzigoot NM side or through a trail at the Dead Horse Ranch State Park. The latter is a better, more scenic route. Either way, the lake is surrounded by thick cattails, precluding views or easy access to water. Dead Horse offers many fine trails, camping, it's own mini fishing lake. The views from Dead Horse toward Tuzigoot at sunset are exquisite. The ruins bathed in gold. Think 7 Cities of Gold.
