This is a great question for the Yosemite forum. Folks have been planning their very very long day hikes to Glacier Point, and we are 'chatting' about their plans. If you go up the Mist Trail to the Panorama Trail and then down the Four Mile Trail, that's about 15 miles with roughly 4,000' of elevation gain (there is some up and down during the hike from 4,000' Yosemite Valley to 7,200' Glacier Point.) No water available at Glacier Point.

We visited in September and it was hot and sunny. Sun hats, T shirts and shorts were appropriate. It is more of a fire risk season than snow and ice! A wedding party were there for their photos and bridesmaids wore off the shoulder dresses and some were barefoot. The shop sells fantastic ice creams - Think large Cornetto! Yes you can get an RV there. Coach trips go there. The road up is a normal two way road, with the odd narrow bend. There is a large car park, which is one way, so you shouldn't have to worry about 3 point turns. It does get busy so you may have to queue to park.

I would check with the park, certain length vehicles are prohibited from driving all the way up to glacier point due to lack of turn around space

Hi As usual, the best way to get information is to use the TripAdvisor forum for Yosemite. Folks who know and love Yosemite are happy to answer. Glacier Point Road is always closed to vehicles in March. Some of the Mist Trail and some of Four Mile Trail from Yosemite Valley up toward Glacier Point are closed to hikers in March. You might be able to cross country ski or snowshoe many miles from Badger Pass to Glacier Point, if you have the skills, experience, and stamina.

No, not up at the point but there is one down at the base of the whole park.

I drove from San Jose it the drive was a bit more than 3 hours to the northwestern edge of Yosemite. The drive from SFO should be similar. I'd add another 90 minutes to that estimate to get to Glacier Point since its at the end of a long road. So figure on 4.5 hours +/-. You should be able to use "Glacier Point Yosemite National Park" in your GPS. Have fun.

But if you are driving, there is a parking lot that tends to get backed up because people are waiting for spots as they enter but we found that if people would just move around, there was ample parking on the next level. Anyway, it is a "have to visit" location if you are going to Yosemite. Good luck and have fun.

In case you mean hiking from Glacier Point down to the Valley, then the answer is yes, but make sure you have a lot and good light with you, as the trails are very tricky.

You must do Glacier Point. During the day....amazing. Stargazing at night.....WOW. If your staying in Yosemite Valley ( Awani, Majestic, Yosemite Valley Inn, etc) it's easiest to hit Glacier Point on the way in before you check in. If not it's 45 minutes to an hour to drive to from the valley floor, which you'll do if you go at night. It is one of the best places on earth for looking at the stars in the night sky. During the day, the meadow at the base of El Capitan is amazing and you can watch the climbers on their 5 day climb. Bring really good binoculars. That meadow is where we got married in November. Same thing with Half Dome, gotta see it. We've had plenty of recent rain so all the falls will be at full flow. Yosemite Falls (easy to get to), Bridlevale (a little longer hike) and all are amazing. Most beautiful restaurant is at the Majestic (Awani). Good food - trout and prime rib, Maybe a little better restaurant is at the Yosemite Valley Lodge. About the same food, little less expensive, less formal, not as beautiful. Only Starbuck's - Yosemite Valley Lodge. Wawona Inn at the south exit of the valley is neat and historic but a long drive from the upper valley. Lots of great hiking everywhere, marked and unmarked trails. Watch for Black Bears. We saw an ornery Mom and her cub on one hike. A large male killed her second cub, hence the ornery. Have fun!

Starting at Glacier Point your options are the 4 Mile Trail, the Panorama Trail or the Pohono Trail, neither of which are good round-trip options to end up back at Glacier Point without doing 8 or more miles. If you want to do the 4 Mile Trail I would suggest reserving the Glacier Point Tour bus ticket, parking in the valley, riding the bus to Glacier Point and hiking down the 4 Mile Trail back to the valley. If you are interested in the Sentinel Dome and Taft Point, the Sentinel Dome has its own parking area along Glacier Point Road a few miles before Glacier Point. There is a 5 mile loop that goes to Sentinel Dome, cuts across a section of the Pohono Trail and then up to Taft point and back to the parking lot, with minimal backtracking. It's possible to take the Pohono Trail in the other direction and get to Glacier Point but again that would be a much longer loop. The Panorama Trail is about 13 miles down to the valley, so you could do something similar with the bus tour or turn back at some point. I would recommend both of these options as a novice and I did them myself on a recent trip and enjoyed them very much, but of course if you are more hardcore there are a lot more options.
